Plant Lives Matter

Okay, I’m not sure if there’s a problem here or not. My snake plant here looks perfectly healthy right? When I first started taking care of it, I had to cut off a few fronds because it had some sort of fungal infection. Ever since I started monitoring my plants’ soil moisture before watering, I’ve noticed the soil on the bottom of this big boy is still moist, even after 3 months. It doesn’t get a ton of light, but it is under a grow light and seems not to be discolored or malnourished. In fact, it’s growing! Any other snake plant parents have similar experience? Just want to make sure I’m not missing something. All my other plants have always been higher maintenance.

It looks healthy! But yes i would be concerned about the soil staying wet for 3 months. I’d recommend repotting into a cactus/succulent mix which would be more well-draining. A more shallow pot can help as well to let the soil dry more easily, since these guys have really small roots. You can just cut a nursery pot to make it more shallow

I guess my question is do I really need to put it in succulent soil though? It doesn’t seem to have root rot issues or a fungal infection. I’m fine not increasing my work load if it’s happy, you know?

I had mine in the soil it came with for about a year and had issues with the bottom soil staying wet. When I took it out of the pot to inspect it, the roots were very small and sparse even though the plant look fine. I repotted it into a terracotta pot with succulent mix and it’s thriving! Yours looks beautiful! I’d just be concerned with the soil rotting and eventually causing problems.

For a snake plant in a pot this big, this is actually pretty normal. Once they get really big, they only need water once or twice a year.
