My string of dolphins is dying. I keep it in the window seal inside and I don’t overwater. Any tips on how to save the remaining 😭 Yesterday left - when I got it a week ago right

It looks like it may need a chunkier soil to allow for better drainage— is the soil damp?

Yes it was damp. I removed it from that soil and put chunkier soil in it!

I was going to say the exact same thing. String of things tend to have short root systems that can grow into a dense mat, so more soil retaining water can cause rot. Personally I would cut off all the green you see, if you end up with no rooted stems, I’d go through the soil & pull all the roots out, then lay the fresh green stuff on top & COVER the stems with soil so it looks like dolphins growing out of the soil. Bottom water till the soil on top is wet & wait till it’s completely dry to water again. You could also water prop if you’re extremely worried.

I’d cut it down and prop it, and I’d probably go with a sphagnum/perlite blend for this one because it doesn’t look like you have that much left. Once the props are ready to pot up be very careful to get all sphagnum off the roots and then put into a VERY well-draining blend. You could do 50/50 perlite and cactus mix or 75/25 drainage/potting soil (I like 50% sand, 25% perlite, 25% soil but you can do whatever drainage components you like)

Repotting too soon after bringing it home causes stress from broken roots and adjusting to the new soil. The initial soil it came in may have felt dense, but, it was working for the plant. I can’t tell from the angle. The new pot maybe too big holding too much water the plant can’t use up. So, it’s technically overwatered from the slow drying of the soil that kept water on the roots too long. Adding more aggregates like perlite to a cacti/succulents potting mix, as suggested, is what I would do. 🍀🪴
