Made a big list of plants I’d like to eventually add to my collection over time, I’m getting a China Money Plant sometime this week or the next, but I don’t know where to go after that. Which one of these should I go for first? Hawthoria Retusa Echeverias Burros Tail Sempervivum Portulacaria Aeonium Graptopetalum Gasteria String of hearts Hoya Calathea Orbifolia Baby tears Watermelon Pepperomia Medallion Calathea Hoya hearts Lemon Button Fern Calathea Dottie Calathea Maui Queen Calathea Rufubarba Boston Fern Bird’s Nest Fern Prayer Plant I did a ton of research on all of these and any of them would work well for me, I just don’t know what to go for first. Also, I love String of Pearls but I have pets and they’re toxic. Is there a safer, alternate option? Thank you all! 😊

String of hearts grows so fast It got as tall as me and then I propped a foot of it back into the pot. They are so fun.

Wait wait wait you have pets, back this discussion up. You need to join the Plants and Pets group. Of the ones you listed, I know calathea, hoya and peperomia are safe for cats at least (I don’t have dogs so I haven’t researched the dog plants). Some of the succulents on your list in particular are no-nos. Keep the fur babies safe!

Ok, I did research the succulents and saw they were pet safe but I will check again. Thank you for letting me know! I didn’t know that was a group, I’ll join it. My pets are everything to me so I’m glad you let me know

I wouldn't be too concerned about toxic plants, as long as you keep them out of reach. I have 3 cats and a dog and 15 of my 27 plants are toxic to pets. Luckily the dog is totally uninterested, but since we started collecting cats (3+ years ago), I've had to change the setup quite a bit. We have shelves out of their reach and full of decor so they won't attempt jumping up. Cabinet with magnetic closure for most of the tropicals (and the plants have really enjoyed the extra humidity of the cabinet!) So far the only one who's managed to ingest toxic plant matter is me. Multiple times, because I don't learn my lesson 😊 As far as your next plant, I'm a sucker for prayer plants so that would always be my vote!
