Has anyone tried to hydroponically grow an aphelandra zebra before? This is the most dramatic plant I have and I feel I water her about every two days… 😭 not a bad thing, but wondering if she’d be happier in full time water instead of soil.

I have 2 in semi-hydro. They are very dramatic plants but surprisingly there are some of the easiest plants I transferred into leca. I’m not sure how they would do in water only but I think it would be fine since mine were thriving in leca before they even grew water roots.

That’s very helpful! Maybe I’ll try the leca route. Thank you!

Are you talking about this kind? Mine took a turn for the worst so I’m trying to water prop what’s left but the stem wasn’t full of nodes like pothos so I’m not sure if it will work…

Do you know where exactly it needs to be cut to prop it? I wasn’t sure. Also, the leaves withered so fast as I left it out an hour to callous before putting it in water. Do you think it will make it? See pic

Omg they are sooo dramatic! Mine was so sad and droopy in soil. Moved it 3 days ago to just straight water with some liquid plant food and it’s bounced right back! Stem and leaves are firm and there’s even some new roots coming in already. I might experiment and leave one in water and move one to LECA 🧐

See my pic above of the sad sad zebra leaves in water. Do you think even those could bounce back?

You might get some new growth off the stem? But those existing leaves are probably toast unfortunately
