Is fiddle leaf fig an easy plant for an amateur to have? I love the plant, but seeing how large it can grow, i am worried i will kill it 😔

    definitely not. i wouldn't recommend ficus as a genus to a beginner lol. MY fiddle has been tolerant of me, but many are not so lucky. people have a lot of trouble with them.

      I have two FLFs, and being new (1yr) in the plant kingdom, they did great. I couldn't figure out why people called them divas. But in the past 2 1/2 wks, Boujee, on the right has lost 2 leaves last week & 1 this week. I'm not doing anything different, but Ican't figure it out. Now, I get the picture of what people are talking about. 🌿💚

    My thoughts, they can be very dramatic and do not like change. But if you have a good sunny window and an oscillating fan they can be easy. I've had figgy just over a year and he's doubled in height. I just got him to branch out in three spots at the top.

      Looks beautiful! Being in the UK also worries me because we wont have much sun for the next few months

      You would definitely need grow light for supports. I'm finding it difficult to light him as he gets taller.

    I have two FLF. Both sit in my eastern facing dining room window with a pergola directly above the porch outside. It isn’t huge amounts of light but is is consistent enough that I haven’t needed to supplement with a lamp. If I put a Christmas tree up in that window (it is visible from the street) I do put grow lights on them in their temporary seasonal space. I have found them to be easy to care for…but I will openly admit to not having them be the first plants in the house…so I’m not really new to caring for them. Maybe get a small one. (My second one is only about 14” tall) and try it out. With Planta’s help with watering and fertilization I think it might not be as intimidating as you fear.

    I agree with most of the other comments. However, if you start with a small starter plant, Planta should make its up keep very simple and easy. I would say that you can definitely learn about this plant as you are growing it! It is not a super fast grower, so you will have plenty of time to learn about it! I have never had one but somehow ended up with one and have never had any issues with it growing! In fact it has been so easy and fun that I’m now at the point of having to repot it to a bigger pot because it has grown so much and so easily! Happy growing!

    Not a good starter plant, my opinion. If you are worried about size, you can cut it down and propagate the top. It's how I ended up with 2, Steve and Steve Jr.

    I’m thinking you should go for it! And you can always prune it to the size you want. I’ve identified a couple of FLFs on my property (in the south). I grappled over digging them up & potting them for sale. Ultimately decided against it. But they are neat little guys. 🌿
