Wild Wednesday! Show us your wildest planter. From teacups to toy trucks, if it’s holding a plant and it’s a little unhinged, it belongs in today’s thread 😆

So fitting for your spider plant!! It's adorable!!
0개 좋아요She’s a cover pot now, but this Centos San Marzano Tomatoes can was my dad’s way of “saving” our jade plant when I was a kid and he knocked it over (for the second time), broke the pot (again) and snapped some of the branches off. No, he did not drill drainage holes in the can, but somehow, for 10 YEARS (this was before I was put in charge of this poor jade) it survived being in this freaking can. He never repotted it. I was the only one that watered it. But somehow, some way, that jade survived long enough to enter my care. After all that, I took it to a nursery to have it repotted and it developed dry rot from bacteria on the packing peanuts they put in there instead of new soil (another story), but the cuttings live. Since then, this can has become the cover pot rite of passage for most of my medium-sized plants once they grow out of their first pots, and it reminds me of what got me into houseplants in the first place: to save that poor jade 😂 (and yes, my dad has since been banned from stepping anywhere near my houseplants, especially my jades)

That silly little can reminds me not just of how far I’ve come with learning from my hobby, but also provides a fun way to document how much my plants have grown. And…shrunk, technically, in this one’s case 😅 (this little guy’s technically 30 years old, though, if you count how old the jade he’s from is)

I love this story. Thank you for sharing. No drainage??? A miracle it lived!!
좋아요 1개No drainage. I definitely can’t credit anything my folks did to the poor thing before my mom put me in charge of saving it after we moved 😂 That credit goes to my abuela, cause ours were cuttings from her original jade, which is still kicking and at least 60 years old. My aunt takes care of it now, but the hardiness of the original and whatever magic my abuela was made out of must’ve been what’s kept it alive for so long. This is her original jade. I’d love to get ours to look like that one day, but at this rate with my cuttings…gonna take a couple decades like this one 😅 Luckily, I’ve got a few newer jades in hopes they can develop into nice bushy ones like my abuela’s someday. This is the closest I’ve gotten with mine so far. 🌱

Giant tea cup with saucer. This cup is the size of a large mixing bowl. My pencil cactus lives it. I got this pot from Goodwill. I love to thrift special pots.

You can also make a wind chime/planter from garage sale or thrift items. I tried a couple. A birdcage filled with moss and succulents on the outside and/or hanging silverware from that or a colander. You can add plants or not depending on style and preference. I found a picture of all the items I gathered, but I can’t find a picture of the wind chime.

Oh I thrift ALL my pots. I love giving someone’s old pot new life in my garden. And each pot you buy is one less that goes to the landfill!
2개 좋아요I second that on thrifting ☝️ My favorite thrift store tends to have packs of tiny nursery pots instead of big ones, and I love looking in the candle sections for upcycled cover pots
