***UPDATE*** I went to Johnsons Garden Center and spoke with them about the situation with my beautiful monstera. He recommended soaking her in peroxide for 15 minutes and let it foam up and then rinse off. It worked perfectly no more smell or anything. I am putting her in lecca for now and see how she does.🙏 Thank you everyone for all of your recommendations! Needing help! I am fairly new to the plant world and need help! I have purchased a 26” tall Thai Constellation that was grown completely in an hydro/aquarium environment. Her aquarium broke and she had to rehome this Thai plant. She said that I can keep it in water or transfer it to soil (my preferred method is soil). However, the water HAS to be changed out every 3 days max. I can not even describe how disgusting the smell is and the slim build-up after 3 days.🤮 I did cut off the softer, longer roots. Can I cut off the root mass hanging on? Or will that kill the plant? It is only one plant and can not be split up. She has at least 7-8 new ones starting to show. The leaves are absolutely huge and gorgeous, hence why I wanted her so bad. Can anyone offer recommendations on transferring her to soil or a better way to keep her in water without having an aquarium? Thank you for any help you can provide.💚🍃🪴

I would try not to cut too many off if you are planning on transferring to soil since it may experience significant shock from that happening all at once. If you can, try and keep those long aerial roots and stake the monstera on a moss pole for support (if growing in soil)

Super odd that it gets so smelly after a couple of days. You could have a little root rot but the rest of the plant looks really healthy! You could try gently rinsing off the roots and remove anything that is super squishy. Then put it in a nice chunky soil mix. Try a tropical mix or you can make your own with house plant soil, perlite, and orchid bark. Happy planting! She’s super pretty!
