I just got a lady palm. My question is, some of the roots are just jutting up and out from the base at crazy angles. Is that okay? I don’t feel a need to trim them, I’m just wondering if it’s good for them to be out of the soil. Any general lady palm advice is also welcome!!

    those look like secondary stems. i'm not too familiar with palms so i'm not sure but it should be fine, try snipping the ends off (circled for less confusion) to see if it sprouts any new buds. the brownish bits that are connected to the green are definitely roots though, you can just top off the soil to cover it if you want to. i would watch to see if it starts pushing up any further, that would mean that the roots are outgrowing the pot.

      Thank you! I’ll do that. For clarification, it’s not that it’s pushing up, it’s that the root ball is kind of lopsided. If I wanted those roots to be in soil, I’d need to tilt the whole plant and it’d be growing at a 30 degree angle! So I thought, maybe palms are like orchids and sometimes the roots don’t grown neatly.
