If there’s one thing I struggled with sm when I started, it was watering. Planta is so helpful, but it’s not always right, so I would always end up overwatering and giving my plant root rot. Over time I learned about the finger rule (stick it in the soil (depending on the plant, how deep u go u can google) and see if any of the soil sticks to your finger in a damp way) and that has saved me

Not much on the top of my head, but those fancy fertilizers or self watering pots or anything over the type besides water & dirt is not always needed. It may be for some sensitive plants, but most indoor plants don’t need it. They’ll grow just fine without it!

Ty Kameron!! I was looking at some self watering plants but didn’t get them, I figured I’d just water myself with trial and error.

Love this! Just a few things I wish I had known sooner in my plant journey: -Use some kind of chopstick, toothpick, or wooden skewer to check your soil before watering. Moisture meters can help but are less reliable in chunky soil mixes and break down after a while. Learn how much each plant needs to dry out in between waterings (e.g. 25%, 50%, 75%, 100%) and let that determine when you water instead of just automatically doing it when Planta tells you too. -My plants usually need more light than I think they do, so I’ve started using a light meter to help assess whether my plants are getting enough light or not. Using a free app or buying a light meter can really help you understand whether your plants are getting enough light or not. -Quarantine new plants for two weeks before putting them with your other plants or risk having a pest outbreak like I did 😅 -Clear planters are my best friend. Instead of or in addition to using the chopstick method, I can visually see whether the plant needs water or not based on the condensation and I can easily see the health of the roots. -Whether a plant will be “easy” to care for or not depends on the conditions you can provide and how you like to care for plants. -Tanner the Planter and Plants with Krystal are two great content creators to start with learning about plant care from.
