Hi all, I bought this Hosta sorbet on Sunday 28th June and planted in a pot when I got home. As you can see on the leaf the green looks like it’s turning a paler green, from the tip on the leaf downwards. When I picked the plant it was bone dry as we have had a heat wave here in the UK so I wasn’t sure if it was anything to do with that? They were trying to cover all the plants with extendable covers to shade them and this was in shade when I got it. Is this normal for hostas to do this? No sign of pests or anything

It looks like mild heat stress, it might be difficult to avoid some mild discoloration of the more sensitive parts of the leaves during heat waves. You could do what the store did and keep it under a light filter shade or move it to be as physically close to some other plants as possible to hold the microclimate.

Thank you! I have moved it to a shaded area, I do have shadier spots so I might put it there for now xxx

If it makes you feel better, look at the sunburn my Thai conn got in less than 20 minutes. The sun is a deadly laser

😳😳😳 oh! I really feel for garden centres as they were really struggling to get everything covered…I wanted to give this hosta a chance 😅 xxx

I’m sure you’ll be able to give it better than the garden center as they have so many to deal with, they won’t focus on every individual plant

I’m a first time Hosta mom. I’ve learned that they are like candy to rabbits. Their leaves are paper thin and easily scorched. They love mostly shade and water. I find that they lose humidity easily as well. I have all of my outside plants clustered together under a shade tree with some doubled up window screen for added protection. We are having 100+ days here in Texas and am watering about every other day. I’m def ready for Fall
