The newest leaf on my ficus is reddish and waxy. Is this somewhat normal? I wonder if I had the grow light intensity too strong while it was unfurling.

    Yeah I think it may be because of too much sunlight.

    Looks normal to me, they often come out pinkish-red especially when new due to the variegation, but it will fade back to cream as it matures. I wouldn’t adjust lighting as that doesn’t look like stress to me and these plants really like light.

    Totally normal for the Tineke. Mine’s new leaves always start out pinkish, then change to cream and green as they harden off. Google ficus Tineke images and you’ll see.
