Wondering about moss poles. Do you buy them pre-made or do you make your owe. I have a few plants that I think will benefit from them and want to know what you all like and if you make them what do you use. Thanks for your info

I’m to lazy to make them. I buy mine from Mossify. I use them for my monsteras that need support
3 LikesI'm sure they can be made from dowel rod some sphagnum Moss and perhaps some bird netting but I'm not sure I would want to go to all that trouble. Depends on how DYI you are. Personally I just buy them.
1 LikeI bought two of mine off Amazon. They’re good but were a pain the butt to bend. They were too tall so I bent them into a squiggly shape and it was difficult. I wish I would have bought the kind that are straight and you can stack them on top of each other to increase the height.
1 LikeAre you talking about a moss pole, or a coconut coir pole?
0 LikesI have a few of those. But they are not a moss pole, and won't give you growth like one. It's a coconut coir pole. I use them on my smaller climbers
1 LikeInteresting. I might look into filling my own like you described in your other comment. I have a monstera I’m looking to repot soon and it will need something to climb on. And if it promotes growth that’s a plus!
1 LikeThey are relatively cheap for the plastic sheafs, like 4-6 pk run around $15-25 online. The moss is probably the most expensive portion, which mixing it with some bark and ammendments add aeration and makes it cheaper. If you live in an area and know someone you can just collect your own sphagnum moss too. You'll just have to de-bug it
0 LikesI buy the plastic outside and then fill with moss/perlite/bark mix (mostly moss). The prefilled ones are sometimes D grade moss, which is why I fill my own. Get one that has the enclosed back, otherwise it will need a lot of watering.
3 LikesThanks fir all the info. Hope to hear more but this does give me a goid start.
0 Likesi make my own - bought moss and ordered a set of equipment off amazon
2 LikesI recently tried to make my own because they are super expensive vs making your own. I ended up making it way way bigger than I intended. I will make more and will get better at it as I do. My suggestion is the make sure you have a plan to get water into it slowly from the top. I use a plant IV bag irrigated which would work if the damn thing wasn't so enormous. Lol
1 LikeLol thanks
