Is it safe to prune a Bird of Paradise’s roots?

Sure. I personally wouldn’t prune more than 30% of a plant’s roots if I intended the plant to stay in its current pot. Don’t expect all of its current foliage to be supported if you remove most of its roots. Why are you pruning?

To be honest it needs a new pot. I'm so used to pruning the roots of my bonsai but these are quite fleshy I wasn't sure if it was safe

Yeah if you’re not going up in pot size I would prune the roots and add soil amendments if not replacing soil completely. I just bought a mini juniper Nana bonsai this past weekend do you have advice?

Only that a juniper is an outside tree. It needs winter dormancy or it will die. I don’t know your zone but keeping it inside all the time will finish it too. There’s lots of good information on YouTube.

Zone 9b, I have it in a west facing window but took the picture on a nightstand.

I hope so because I got a 20 foot one for my parents and had to cut almost a foot off the bottom of the root ball to get it to fit
