Hi! I just got a bunch of new plants and if anyone could help me identify this one, it would be much appreciated! Reverse search only did so much, but I have it under a baby rubber plant but I just want to be sure so I can treat it correctly

It’s correct. It’s a peperomia obtusifolia. Would you like some care tips for it?

Oh I’m so glad I got it correct thank you. Yes I would love some. I believe that I read they like to be treated as succulents as in bone dry soil before watering. Bottom watering, but sunlight I’m afraid that any direct sunlight will hurt it

The obtusifolia variety of peperomia do great in full sun. I keep all of mine in south-facing windowsills. Just gradually expose it by gradually moving it closer and closer to brighter light over the span of a few weeks if you wanna be extra careful. The rest of what you wrote sounds good. I swear by Espoma’s Organic Cactus and Succulent mix for my peperomias, especially the obtusifolias. Just make sure when you ever repot not to repot them in too big of a pot. They like being snug in their pots and getting rootbound, so opt for something with drainage holes (plastic or terra cotta pots), and no more than 1-2 inches wider in diameter than the width of the plant’s root ball.

As for some tips - definitely bottom water. Don’t mist the leaves. They don’t need misting or a humidity tray, and those aren’t really very effective in terms of boosting humidity for plants despite how often it’s suggested. Mine do just fine without any added humidity just hanging around indoors at room temp. - an easy way to tell if the soil is dry enough to water is to use a bamboo/barbecue skewer and stick it all the way to the bottom of the soil, then take it out. If the soil sticks to it, wait at least 2 days, then test again. If the skewer comes out clean and dry, with nothing sticking to it, it should be safe to dry. Let the soil completely dry out between waterings. I wait at least 11-14 days before watering mine. - you can propagate it by cutting between the nodes (between the leaves), letting the ends callous over for a days then dipping the ends into some Bonide’s Rooting Hormone Powder to speed up the propagation process (you’ll have more spots for roots to grow from if you remove the bottom set of leaves on stem cuttings. You can propagate those too and dip them in the rooting powder), then stick the cuttings into some cactus mix and bottom water it. Allow it to dry out every 15 days, then water, and check by the end of 30 days for root development. (Leaf props root much faster than stem ones, in my experience)

I noticed in your plant’s photo that two of the stems seem to be drooping over the signs. Just wanted to give you the heads up that you might wanna give the roots a check for any signs of distress or root rot if that’s still the case. Drooping like that tends to be a sign of overwatering or root rot. If it’s in soil of Miracle Grow brand, that’s probably the cause of it. If that’s the case, remove the old soil and repot it in cactus mix of any other brand than Miracle Grow.

Thank you so much! I will keep you updated. Yea I just bought it from someone else so trying to give it the best life. I will definitely slowly acclimate it to full sun as my window has scorched plants not used to it. I will check the roots but it was just moved to one pot to the same size but so the seller could keep the pot. I just watered it even though it seemed wet only because I have a gnat problem right now. Again, I will update this post in a few weeks. Thank you so so much for all the information and I will use your advice to hopefully make sure it thrives! I wonder if the leaning is due to low light in its old home and it was leaning bc of that
