I have 2 questions. So I currently have a Moth Orchid and am in desperate need to change out the orchid bark. My first question is, what kind of orchid bark would be the best? My second question is, does anyone know how to do this without fully damaging the plant? Thank you!

I use sphagnum moss and it can be replaced a bit easier due to it being softer, just have to be careful and make sure it dries when watering. And orchid roots are pretty tough just don’t bend them too much or they will break from experience. But they’ll grow back

My daughter just gave a moth orchid today for my birthday! How do you know when to change the moss and bark? I’ve two orchids before and could never figure out how to keep them alive or rebloom! I really want to succeed with this one since it’s from my family ❤️

I’m not going to lie to you but I don’t really know when the proper time is lol. My bark has kind of just started to mold so I figured I should probably change it.

i would recommend checking out repotme dot com, they have lots of specialized orchid mixes. monterey pine bark is the main constituent of most of their phaleonopsis mixes. sphagnum is good for juvenile plants but can hold onto too much moisture for mature orchids

I use 60/40 prepackaged orchid mix (any is good! I’ve used miracle gro and other equivalent) and sphagnum moss, I find orchid mix on its own doesn’t quite hold enough water for Planta’s schedule
