Looking for plant recommendations! I am just loving my indoor plants. I try to stick to pet friendly plants that aren’t too temperamental. I have several peperomia plants, calatheas, money trees, a Hoya, a crispy wave fern and an African violet. I have a few plants that aren’t pet friendly that I keep out of reach of my dogs - a snake plant, a pothos, and an aloe plant. Are there any other poet friendly plants I should try to add to my collection? Should I try a more advanced plant like a different type of fern? Anyone have any suggestions?

IMO if you think Calathea’s aren’t temperamental you are READY for just about anything. Alocasia? I’m not sure if they are pet friendly my Berner leaves all my plants alone

Thank you! My calatheas are thriving. Maybe because it’s summer and humid, but they’ve been great even with the air conditioning. I don’t know why! I will checkout alocasias. My puppy puts everything in his mouth!

You could go with an orchid if you’re looking for something small, or consider a monstera for a bigger option.

Lipstick plants and Goldfish plants (Aeschynanthus and Nematanthus, respectively). There’s quite a few varieties between them both, they flower, and they’re non-toxic for pets and people 😊 I’ve currently got a regular Goldfish Plant, and Goldfish Plant Shady Lady Mae, a Black Pagoda Lipstick Plant (super cool. They’re at Ott’s and Rhoads Garden atm), and picked up a Thai Pink Passion Lipstick Plant that I am extremely excited to see bloom someday. Currently hunting for a Mona Lisa Lipstick Plant and Goldfish Plant Tropicana 🐠

My money plant is the first plant that got me totally hooked on indoor plants. I have it in a very chunky cactus soil and next to an eastern facing window. That seems to be the secret so far, that my window is just good light for the types of plants I have. I also have pretty big trees outside the window that seem to block maybe just enough light for them to get really nice indirect light. I water about once a week when they seem very dry at the top.

A spider plant could a nice none toxic option. They are super easy to care for grow so fast. If you’re looking for a slightly toxic plant, philodendrons are great. I have a dragon tail philodendron but there are endless varieties and most are pretty easy to care for.

Good ideas! I think spider plants are cute when they’re curly.

Peperomia are not difficult but are exquisite in my opinion especially with the textures and colors. excited for the other recs to add to my list!
