My husband saw this at the grocery store and brought it home for me! It’s labeled as assorted foliage, but I was hoping someone could help identify this. My first thought was it looked like pearl and jade pothos, but now I’m not sure since it’s quite tall and my only experience with pothos are hanging

I hope someone with more knowledge and experience will weigh in, but the shape and growth habit look like a peperomia obtusifolia. I had the exact same thought as you about the pattern, but definitely not a pothos

I think it’s more like your baby rubber tree. I don’t see any red stems like the peperomia

Here is a closer up of the stem. Is it a tree? I could have it wrong!

It’s a variegated peperomia obtusifolia, specifically a “sweet and sour” variegation. I’ve got one myself named Penny. Here’s mine for comparison. Do you need any care tips if you’re new to peperomia?

I’d love some tips! I’ve never had one of these guys before, or ever a plant of this leaf type

Peperomia are great! The obtusifolia variety is particularly hardy. I’ve got 7 different types of these, so here’s a few tricks I’ve learned with them. 1. They need well draining soil. Avoid anything miracle grow brand, even their succulent stuff. It’s not well draining enough. I use a mix of Espoma’s Cactus and Succulent Mix and Organic All-Purpose mix for all of my peperomia, about 20% of the cactus and 80% all-purpose to add drainage and perlite. 2. They’re very susceptible to edema and overwatering because of their succulent like leaves, so treat them like a low-light succulent: I bottom water mine (if you’re new to that, look up “how to bottom water a plant” on YouTube. Very easy and helps develop a strong root system and prevent overwatering and attracting pests) and let the soil completely dry out before watering.

      3. Though they’re hailed as low-light succulents, they do well in north windows, but east and west windows are great for them. Essentially, as long as they’re not in a full sun/south window, it’ll be fine. If the leaves start to burn or lighten, it needs a lower light window. Mine are all in my north windowsills, but they’re bright for north ones. 4. They enjoy being rootbound, similar to jades and ZZ plants, but if the roots start poking out of the drainage holes, it’s time for a repot. They enjoy being snug in their pots, so they don’t need a large size up when repotting, just enough to cover the roots and allow for some space to continue growing. 5. They grow flowers that naturally die off and snap themselves off. Don’t be alarmed if you find them falling off the plant; it’s natural (and I think it’s a pretty cool feature). If you don’t like the flowers, snip it off as far down the stem as you can and it’ll tell the plant to focus on growing foliage 6. Don’t mist them. I know the app says to, but don’t. Mine do fine without a humidifier, but if you live in a dry or cold climate, try a room humidifier, placing it with other plants, or making a humidity tray. Last thing I wanna add is just to make sure the plant’s number of days before watering through the plant’s ID matches what the app recommends for YOUR specific plant. I’ve found that’s been a frequent glitch lately, and if it’s suggesting watering earlier than what searching the same plant through the ID says, go through your plant’s custom settings and change it to a custom watering schedule, and match it to the ID. For example, all of mine are watered every 10 days in September, but the app’s glitch told me to water every 8 days. That’s about it. They’re really low maintenance. They’ve become a new favorite for me and all they ever need from me is some watering, rotating every 1-2 weeks after watering so all the sides grow evenly, and a repot once a year. Yours looks pretty healthy from your post’s photo, so as long as you make sure you don’t overwater it, I think you’ll be pretty happy with it. Good luck! 👍

Definitely looks like a type of peperomia to me. I have a different type but saw this kind come up a lot while I was looking into care for mine^

I agree with most of the comments except that my “Pepper” loves light (not direct) and being misted. I added supports for vertical growth as it gets heavy and breaks off if left downward.
