Can anyone tell me if I’m supposed to let this plant dry out all the way to the bottom before watering again? It’s super picky and I’m afraid to overwater. Planta says once every two weeks but it stays so moist. Now the top inch is dry but underneath isn’t completely dry. Also, I was told it’s a zig zag plant. Is that right?

It’s really hard to tell by this photo what it is exactly because it’s lost so many leaves. It also looks like it’s planted in moss? If it’s staying moist for that long it’s probably a bit part of your problem. Repotting in a soil mixture with perlite, vermiculite and/or bark will help it drain quicker

i would water it again once it is dried out and maybe let it wilt a bit to tell you that it needs water. a lot of the times, i don’t water my plants when the app tells me to because of the plant being too wet when it says to do so

It is indeed called a zigzag plant, but it’s also called a devil’s backbone. I have one. She’s kind of an enigma to me so far. All I wanted to let you know is that you might wanna look up information for the other name. It may help. They are really cool looking, aren’t they?

They really are! I love how they bend & reach for the light. Thank you.

I just remembered something definite- they do NOT want to be in bright direct sun. If its leaves start turning reddish, it’s getting sun damage. And then, boom, it will drop all its leaves.

Good to know! It’s on my enclosed back porch so it doesn’t get direct sun. But the edges are a little pink on some leaves. I thought it was normal for the plant. I’ll take another look to be sure. Thank you.
