I use regular potting soil but the thing that finally stopped killing this plant is use filtered water that’s been sitting out. Tap water slowly kills this one

just a little heads up - calatheas are notoriously very picky plants! if something goes wrong, go easy on yourself, especially since youre still learning 🌱 i think you probably could use regular potting soil, but a chunky mix that drains well would be best. you can add ammendments like perlite, coco chips, orchid bark, and vermeculite. a mix that is too dense (and a pot that is too big) will hold on to moisture for too long, which will cause root rot. def use filtered, rain or distilled water - the chemicals can cause thr leaves to crisp which would eventually cause the plant to die, as Adam said. these guys also love humidity! lower levels can cause tips to brown/crisp as well. hope this helps!

I have at least 5 Calatheas and they all are thriving in a 50/50 mix of potting soil and perlite.
