When the heat comes on, the spider mites come out. Check the fronts and backs of your leaves for webbing and signs of damage. If you notice spider mites, rinse your leaves and tray with neem oil!

0 LikesMy biggest winter problems were low lighting and low humidity. Humidity levels are low with heaters drying out the air. A humidifier fixes the low humidity problem. South facing windows with no outside obstructions are bright for most of my plants in summer. But, are perfect for winter. Unfortunately, I have more plants than southern windows. So, I recently added more and higher quality grow lights to cover all 160+ plants that will live inside this winter. This will reduce the amount of dropped leaves and dead vines I usually get by spring. Watering schedules often change. Reduce water and fertilizer when growth slows in colder months. Over watering and root rot are common in winter. Always verify the plants need water before watering. đđȘŽ
5 LikesGood stuff! I decided to just let my west-facing babies take the L this year. I donât wanna move plants around no more!
1 LikeDefinitely humidifier and almost daily misting. I also break out more lights. And it's usually when I re-up the predatory mites/nematodes
1 LikeI wish bugs were affordable where I live!
0 LikesI order mine online. But they definitely aren't cheap. Sometimes one of the local feed or hardware store has them.
1 LikeIâll check my local stores!
0 LikesIâm new to âreallyâ taking care of my plants. Is it ok to fertilize in winter if youâve never fertilized?

I think itâs okay to fertilize as long as your plant is putting out new growth. In the winter I usually really dilute to about 1/4 of what they usually get if I do fertilize

I would also recommend be careful to watch your more sensitive plantsâ leaves and make sure they arenât touching any cold windows. My pilea immediately dropped a couple leaves that were touching a window after temps dropped one night
1 LikeI bought weatherization kits as an added layer of security!
0 LikesNo need to stop fertilizing, if the plant is still growing thereâs a reason to fertilise
