SOS how can I revive my pink princess philodendron? I’ve posted a few times since I got this propagated guy a while back. It is SO tall, 26”, but the leaves are drooping and because of its height it’s so delicate and falls over easily. I always have to lean it against something. Everyone’s said don’t repot unless the roots are coming out. Do I repot? It really feels like it’s dying. And because of how tall and flimsy it is, should I cut it up? I’ll have to cut off leaves in order to bury it deep it enough it won’t fall over.

Check the roots. It may need a repot its fresh soil and a moss pole to support.

Thank you! This is such a tiny pot, I think 2”. Do you recommend I go up just one size? Any recommendations on a fairly skinny moss pole?

Honestly, it looks like it needs a repot so if that’s the case, the typical sized moss polls would work fine!

Start with a 4” pot. That should give you it enough growing room without letting excess wet soil sit on the roots. You may have to repot in spring or early summer depending on the rate of root growth.

Yes repotting would be advised. 2 in is quite tiny for such a tall plant. Of course the picture might be distorting the actual size. When you choose a new pot I would go with something breathable. Pink princess does not like wet feet. Also, raise the soil level so that air can easily evaporate moisture from the top. Soil should come a half inch or so from the top of the pot. Use a good quality draining soil perhaps one especially for aroids.

Thank you! I have suspected I needed to repot for quite some time now, but a lot of people recommended against it because I never saw roots coming out. But it’s at the point where it can’t even stand up. Do you think 4” is okay? I just want to make sure it has base support and won’t fall over because it’s almost 3’ tall.

I recommended the 4” pot to allow for a slim moss pole or a trellis to fit. Use the ceramic pot as an outer pot to weigh it down.

You should be able to find a moss Pole at a good garden center. Or you might consider a small trellis. Whatever you choose think a little down the road and buy one that is a little taller than your plant. I will say it is very satisfying to see a plant rooting into a sturdy Moss Pole..

You can use ferning pins, zip ties, twine or other things to fasten your plant to the Moss Pole but whatever you use make sure it's not too tight around the stem.
