hi so i want to transfer my peace lily and monstera into water permanently. Does anybody have any tips? Do i just put them in a bowl of water and leave them alone? Also how harsh is the transition stage and will they experience shock? The peace lily has very good roots and i just watered her yesterday. The monstera on the other hand has alot less roots. I watered her like a month ago but her soil is still suspiciously wet.

For the monstera I’d probably chop her main stalk couple times and then cut all the roots off. She will do just fine like that, and her earth roots will rot away anyways to make way for water roots. But I’ve hard monstera cuttings thrive in water and basically become their own plant. No experience to draw from for the peace lily, but probably just cut all her roots off as well. If you don’t, you’ll have to change the water frequently until all her earth roots have rotted away, and I’d be worried she’d get root rot and die. Without any roots her system will immediately go into creating roots that will draw nutrients from the medium available instead of trying to adjust first and then making new roots.

Roots are roots... they are no different soil to water.

This sounds like a fun project!! The main issue will be just keeping the top of the plant above water so it doesn't cause you a rot issue on the lily. You may need to jerry-rig something with chopsticks or plastic, or and inverted pot in the container. Just like if you were changing to Pon or lecha...Clean all of the soil off of the plant, be as thorough as possible, I use my kitchen sprayer. I also use spring water or RO for all my water props. Tap just doesn't seem to do. I also add in some Prop Drops and a bit of fertilizer.
