Any tips on growing a happy Pilea ?? She’s been losing a leaf every few days and barely growing any new leaves. Any tips will help!!

    The pot looks too large for the plant so it’s probably over watered/too wet.

      Thanks, it is staying wet for too long close to the plant itself. I’ll look into getting a smaller pot.

      Thx, I see now. There were just so many exposed roots at the top, I wanted a pot big enough to cover them

    I’ve had problems like that with mine when they aren’t getting enough light.

    Much looser/chunkier soil and more light! If the root ball is big enough and doesn’t have any babies coming off in the lower part, you could cut off the bottom leaving at least half the roots so that the bare stem can be buried deeper — it will grow new roots higher up and probably shoot off a bunch of babies if you keep the roots healthy and give it good light. For soil I love Mollys mixes and use them for almost everything, but I usually mix with whatever cheap all-purpose potting mix and/or the cheap “succulent/cactus” potting mix (which for reference is still way too heavy/dense for almost any succulent 😂) For my pileas I use about 2 parts mollys aroid mix, 1 part cheapo “succulent” soil, and 2 parts all-purpose mix. I also sometimes put a layer of leca at the bottom first. Pileas don’t want to go completely dry, but they never want their roots to sit in soggy soil. They are fairly forgiving though — if you let them dry out they will dramatically fall over, but perk right up when you water (it’s actually really satisfying😂) and they have sturdy enough roots that they don’t immediately get root rot if overwatered. I let mine dry out until they *just* start to droop (your soil will be very dry on top) and water very deeply (I make sure I wet the whole surface and water til it is coming out the bottom, leave it sitting in that water and see if it pulls it back up — if it reabsorbs it all in less than ~5 min, I actually add a little more; if there’s water left after ~5 min, pour it away). Lightwise, they want to be *in* the window or they will lean like crazy. If your window gets more than about an hour of direct sun, then you can place them as close to the window as possible in a spot where they will miss most of the *direct* sun. Mine sit in a northwest facing window that gets a splash of direct evening sun and they love it.
