I have the Venus Fly Trap plant. My second one can't seem to grow them
They need to be outside where they get rain water. This looks like an accumulation of tap

0 Me gustathat pot is WAY too big. also, important note, if you're buying them from big chain stores in those weird plastic boxes, they're destined to die. there's no saving them. however, if you did NOT purchase it from there, it looks like you don't have the right soil. carnivorous plants need nutrient-poor soil, such as sphagnum or coco coir, as their roots can't handle the minerals in normal potting soil. they also need rain water or distilled water, as the chemicals that are added to normal tap water will kill them very easily. carnivorous plants are incredibly fussy and high maintenance.
0 Me gustaI bought mine from Lowe’s in a plastic box and it is doing great! lol maybe I got lucky!
1 me gustareally? i only hear horror stories about those!!! i guess you have the magic touch or something lol
0 Me gustaIt's in the carnivorous soil. Think if I transplant to a smaller pot it will come back? I also use distilled water
1 me gustaprobably not. this one looks like a lost cause unfortunately. check your humidity and the temperature, as well as how much light it gets. it looks quite dry. carnivorous plants all have high humidity needs, and fly traps specifically need at least 6 hours of DIRECT sunlight, so they should be put as close to a north facing window as possible or even outside.
0 Me gustaThank you I transplanted to a small pot and put outside
0 Me gustaI’ve only had success with these in moss water and keeping them constantly moist with rain water or distilled water
0 Me gustaCarnivorous plants need lots of light. Their pot needs to sit in a dish of rainwater, distilled, or reverse osmosis water. Make sure that the soil and water have no nutrients and do not fertilize!
1 me gustaYes! They get nutrients from the insects they eat: no need to fertilize.
0 Me gustaLooks like it was planted in the wrong medium, and in a way too big pot. Mine is growing in moss and I leave it in a water cup filled with filtered water, cup has to be full. Also these guys have to have a dormancy period in the winter or they’ll die. They also need more light than you think. I keep mine about a foot under a grow light that stays on for 12 hours a day. Haven’t had any problems with it, but they are not beginner friendly plants. If you want a carnivorous plant almost any other type would be easier. There’s a lot of misinformation on flytrap care out there, so good luck and I hope you try again someday!
0 Me gustaOk thanks though they could not get to wet.
0 Me gustaWhen you get them from the store, they need to be trimmed and repotted ASAP. For potting you have rotate a bog-like environment: I had mine in all sphagnum moss in a 16oz deli container that sat inside an 8 oz deli container with up to 4oz of distilled water or rain water. They love full direct sun and mine was thriving until winter: it was my first one and I didn’t know how to take care of it during dormancy. It’s better to keep them outside; I had mine on our screened porch.
