I got a string of pearls yesterday, but I plan on getting a dog by the end of the year. Does anyone have one and just keep it on a high shelf from pets or is that too risky? I’ve just had my heart set on a string of pearls :/

I have cats which is impossible to keep out of plants if they are really eager. Dogs are more limited. Just keep in mind the length of the plant, and if you really have your heart set on the plant, always be ready for a vet bill! I do worry if any of the peas were to drop, if a pet would eat them from the floor. I’m shocked that strings of peas aren’t pet friendly! Almost every other string of things I’ve looked into are safe. Have you thought about getting a string of hearts or dolphins instead? Or a burros tail??

The Burros tail looks cool too it’s probably a good idea I just switch it out for that!

I'd just hang it in a window on a hook. The hanging baskets are great to keep some plants away from pets

Maybe give it a haircut (a trim)? Burros tail is also really similar, and non-toxic, so that could be a good option as well.

I have 2 dogs and various non pet friendly plants. My dogs don’t give my plants any attention.

Pets are like people. Some people eat peanut butter continually while others are deathly allergic to it. Most toxic plants cause stomach upset and digestive issues, maybe some vomiting. Most are not fatal unless the animal eats a lot. Some plants should be avoided altogether. You should research the plant to see what type of symptoms they give. I would definitely avoid dumb cane (Defenbachia) and any others that cause respiratory difficulties Or damage to major organs. The bottom line is you need to do your research and train the dog to stay away from your plants. Not an easy task!

If it’s a husky or collie of any sort, nothing is safe. Including your plants chairs carpets shoes blankets food ANYTHING!! DON’T DO IT!! Get a small dog that doesn’t shed massive amounts of fur and can’t reach things. Like a poodle. Pitbull is okay as they’re extremely teachable and very sensitive. But they’re very sensitive. EXTREMELY sensitive. But they’re the best with kids.

I have a year old puppy and a 4 month old puppy and a 22 year old cat. Mine sits on the floor in front of my two huge pink princess and they don’t mess with them.
