What do you all think of self-watering planters? I was gifted a plant in one of them and Iā€™ve seen mixed reviews. So far so good but Iā€™m a little nervous, I donā€™t want to lose another plant to root rotšŸ˜­

    Iā€™ve had mixed results. Some of my ā€œmysteryā€ seed ball things that Iā€™ve gotten as gifts have done REALLY well in them. I also have some potted sunflowers that I started as seeds that are doing VERY well. I also have some that Iā€™ve had to take out of the pot to dry out because it was so overwatered. I think you just have to make sure itā€™s for a plant that LOVES water!

      I also check mine daily, sometimes twice and drain any water out of the bottom (I have a few of those mystery seed things in self watering pots on my porch)

      Thats what I was thinking, and so far so good. I lift it and check to make sure no water is just stagnant at the bottom too long so ill see how it continues to go

    It fully depends on the plant. If itā€™s a plant that needs to stay moist all the time - ferns, nerve plants, etc, then a self watering pot should be fine. If itā€™s a plant that needs to dry out and/or stay dry for a bit, a self watering pot isnā€™t a great option. I learned the hard way just cause a plant comes in a self watering pot doesnā€™t mean it should be in one.

      See im 90% sure whats In it now has to have moist soil almost always so I was thinking its great to have .

      I have a succulent in one right now because it was the only pot I had that was small enough, and šŸ„²šŸ„² trying to dry it out after the first watering was a TRIP so now I just use a spray bottle so I donā€™t get any water stuck in the bottom

      I must not water my plant enough using it due to me being scared of this exact thing. Its never any water left it always drinks it all upšŸ˜­šŸ¤£. I heard having that water stuck gives it root rotšŸ«£
