Hi! I just moved into a new house in mass, and am coming from an apt so this is first time having a yard. Discovered that we have some apple trees in the backyard that I believe are about 1-3 years old, but don’t seem to be doing too well. The left one has produced about half a dozen apples while the one on the right seems to be struggling. I’d love any advice on watering strategy, pruning, sprays, etc to try to get these trees back on track for next year. Also if you can diagnose what the issue is, that’d be super helpful (I think the one on the left has cedar rust?) It’s only letting me upload 4 photos at a time right now.

I grew up with apple trees the spots are a normal occurrence I suggest you don’t spray it with anything

If the tree starts to get worse you may have to remove it

Also if you do have to remove it I suggest you get another one.Fruit trees do better in pairs

I agree, the spots look like cedar apple rust. That fungus only occurs when cedars or junipers and apples are near each other, so removing/separating the evergreens from the apple area should help. Otherwise, find the affected evergreen and remove any visibly affected parts (it usually forms a gall/witches' broom, and then oozes an orange substance.) I also see some caterpillar damage. If you can find them and get photos, i can help you ID species and determine if they'll be a pest or just a harmless garden critter

Thanks, I have not been able to find any on there, but it’s definitely being eaten by something. Do you think I should be doing a late summer prune?

I'd definitely prune it; whether you do that in late summer or wait till spring is up to you
