Something’s going on with my fiddle leaf fig, and I don’t know what… | Anything about plants | Planta-fællesskab

Something’s going on with my fiddle leaf fig, and I don’t know what the heck it is ! There was a time last spring that she nearly completely defoliated; I thought she was a goner. But, with time, she replaced all of her leaves, and is looking really well. However, just recently, she started dropping leaves again… maybe three or four a day. I’m noticing that some of the leaves have darkened areas on the tips of the leaves, which you can see in the pictures. Does anybody know what’s happening to my plant; is she just neurotic, and every once in a while starts to defoliate??? TIA for any help you can give me about my fiddle fig… which I love! 🥲 🤗💚🪴

They hate the slightest change in their care routine, light levels and location, but will eventually get used to the change if you don’t change it any further.

Mine looked amazing, then proceeded to drop all its leaves. I was talking to someone else, and theirs recently did the same thing. Here in Texas it doesn’t feel like fall, but im wondering if they somehow know its fall

There has been some really cool research on plants reactions to barometric pressure changes with the seasons/storms etc. I wonder if that has anything to do with it?

A cold draft can make them drop a bunch of leaves even if it’s from an A/C vent. Not enough light and they will drop leaves or too much water or not enough water. They are bit finicky about things being just right.

Not enough light…hmmmm… I just made a post at the bottom of this thread, and was wondering if it might be low light that is causing my ficus to drop her leaves. I just reread your text, and maybe you hit the nail on the head. TXS! 🤗💚🪴

This looks like a ficus triangularis which is not a fiddle leaf fig- you might need different care

Oops… My mistake! My ficus is a triangularis, not a fiddle leaf fig, (of which, I do have one). TXS for catching that; you have great eyes! 🤗💚🪴

I have a triangularis that I just got in early October. She just started dropping leaves this past week here in western Washington. I hope it’s just a fall thing!

I’m beginning to think that they are just “nervous Nellies“! From all the comments, it seems they will defoliate at the drop of a hat, for anything. I’m treating all my ficus, of which I have four, with an abundance of care now… TXS for your post! 🤗💚🪴 PS. I hope your triangularus doesn’t drop too many leaves. At least you know if she does, she should come back to her former beauty, in time… like mine did!

Just as an update, mine is still losing 3-5 leaves a day; she’s done this before. Perhaps she just doesn’t like the low light, since I live in the PNW. Maybe this type of weather is hard on everything?! 🤗💚🪴
