Hey guys 🗣️ So this is my „Ruby“ rubber tree.. it had foul roots from too much water; I cut it at the right length, put it in water, it regrew beautiful roots to replant it - then it didn‘t like the soil and water either - replanted it in something drier and now it looks like this.. I‘m in shambles and do not for the life of me know what to do next 😭 Planta says to replant it in a pot with soil, but is this really the way to go? The roots look okayish. I‘m on the fence to just put it in a water culture again, hoping the roots heal and the next try potting it will work. Please be nice, I‘d appreciate any tips or motivational pushes. 🤠

I feel your pain ☹️ I’ve been there with my tineke. It’s hard to tell without seeing the roots and it’s a tough time of year too. I think putting her in water maybe for the season might be your best way to go. Godspeed! Give updates! 💚💚

I feel your pain. I have a love/hate with my ruby, almost dumped it several times. Same situation, took out of soil, cleaned rotted roots, put in water, it recovered, put back in soil, struggled again...I did put it back in water. It's not happy, but not actively dying either. I just haven't seen new growth roots or leaves. This has been going on for several months. My conclusion is it doesn't like change. It's slow to adjust. So, my suggestion is let it settle in to the set up you have, it needs to strengthen/regrow roots to handle soil and as long as it doesn't decline any more, it may bounce back, but it may take awhile. Hang in there!

I also wanted to replant a ruby plant, the flower shop I usually go to told me to cut it at the right length (a little longer than yours in the pic), then just put it in soil and water it every 5 days, put it somewhere that it gets DIRECT sunlight, and hope for the best. So yeah there you go. I hope it helps

It sounds like the ficus possibly went through some repot shock from being repotted the second time. If that’s the case, gently pull the plant out from the current soil and inspect the roots. If the roots are shriveled or rotted again, remove all the damaged roots and soak the stem in hydrogen peroxide for 10 minutes, then gently pat it dry. Get some rooting hormone powder (I find Bonide’s Rooting Hormone powder to be pretty readily available at nurseries and hardware stores) and cover the roots and any nodes liberally with the rooting powder, then stick it back in the current pot and soil if there wasn’t rot. If there was, put it in a new pot with fresh soil, and hold off on watering it for a few days so you don’t wash the powder away. Hope this helps. 😊
