This bromeliad plant is in the original pot with no drainage. I thought it was dying and so I was going to give it to a friend that is better with plants then I am but then I noticed these little babies at the bottom. I would like to separate the 2 plants and put them in better pots but I'm not sure if I can now that there's babies. What do you all think and thanks for you help

You should be able to. Just make sure that you include all the roots. You can actually separate the babies (which are called pups) now, but I’d recommend waiting until they’re a little bigger.

So the big plant is in fact dying. That's what happens to bromeliads. They produce a flower and then they die and while they're dying they produce pups. And, yes wait till they get quite a lot bigger it can take a long time for the parent to die.

I found out that the mama will die I just wasn't sure if the pups need to be bigger before I replant them. I will leave the mother with them till they get bigger and good roots.

That's really a cute pot it's too bad it doesn't have drainage. Is there any way you can drill a hole in the bottom? I think if you have a ceramic drill bit you can carefully drill.

I have a friend that drills hole in some of her pots. I will have to check with heron how she does it. Thanks
