This is the perfect example of why I don’t ever recommend wick and water or self watering pots! Saved 3 plant babies from my local Walmart today. More updates to come! 😌

What if the plant requires to be consistently moist? I have a sundew in a self watering pot and it’s just as if I had it sitting in a dish of water. I think it depends on the plant, not all plants should go in a self watering pot though :) good job rescuing the ones you did!

Consistently moist is different than being consistently in water. Most plants will succumb to root rot in these conditions. Thats awesome your sundew is thriving!

I guess I’m missing the issue with the plant in the picture. Is it the roots coming out the bottom or the white build up around the drain holes?

Yes the white was mildew and rot from being in a self-water pot

That’s bad! I thought it was hard water deposits.
