Please help me. I went too far with my wisteria, which has been growing on this property for a while before I moved here. I was trying to trim it down and cut off all the shoots and then I looked something up that said, I needed to pick three strong trunks and cut off any growth from there. This is what I am left with 😩 I have jagged edges and all. I’m so sad idk what to do next.

Just clean the cut by making a smooth angle one and wait. It will be alright.

These are almost impossible to kill. I’ve been trying to kill one for almost 20 years. Previous owner planted it. It rips down fences. Yours will put out new growth points.

Same.. previous owners planted it and it was definitely damaging my fence behind it. But it’s so pretty that I really want to learn how to prune it and keep it controlled. Thank you for this. I’m happy to know that I have not killed it lol.

Typically, tree pruning should be done around February before the new buds emerge. You can brutally cut it and rely on the new growth to generate flowers. I recommend getting a tree professional. They are usually very knowledgeable. They can do the initial major pruning and show you how to maintain it.

Kinda late for the tree professional, as I did cut a huge amount off. This is great Segway to an update; my baby is looking good and has already started some new growth. I’ve been watching her closely and I am so happy I didn’t ruin it. 🥰 I do very much appreciate your comment. Thank you 🙏🏾 I’ll keep that in mind next time I take on such a huge project.
