My friend got me an azalea a couple weeks ago and i’m trying my best to keep it alive. Recently all the flowers started dying off and i’m not sure why. I thought it was not enough water so today I gave her a little extra. Does anyone have tips for how to maintain her health? Please let me know !

Is there any way you could put it outside? It would do so much better in the sunshine. It needs a ton of light.

Yes but would it be bad for the current season? It’s almost summer here but temperatures are still about 50s as the high until its here completely

The hardiness of the azalea depends on the variety. Azaleas can be available through florists and these azaleas are often not as Hardy as the varieties sold at garden centers for outdoor planting. Where did your friend buy this azalea? As far as the flowers falling, it would depend on how long it has been blooming. Eventually all the flowers will fade of course and some May fall more quickly because of the change in environment.

She got them from Trader Joes about a month ago

My guess would be that it's the florist variety of azalea and will not survive winter outdoors if you're in a cold climate.

Putting it by a window with a grow light would help the blooms last longer, but as others have said the blooms will always die off eventually since they don’t last all year. Once the last frost of your season passes, I would definitely recommend planting outside, somewhere with plenty of light but some afternoon shade.

I have several azaleas in my yard and I’m in zone 7.

Should I be okay in a zone 6?
