My Monstera has some unusual marks on its leaves, and I’m not sure what’s causing them. I try to water it regularly using the Planta app as a guide, but I sometimes forget to check the soil or get too busy. I only stick my finger about halfway into the soil to check moisture, so I might not be watering it correctly. It receives medium sunlight for roughly 8 hours a day, though my estimate might not be exact. Could it be an overwatering issue?

I don’t think this looks like classic overwatering. The large tan/bleached patch with the yellow edge looks more like sun scorch or an area that was physically damaged and healed over. If the rest of the plant looks healthy and the newer leaves are coming in normally, I wouldn’t worry too much about this one leaf. I’d keep checking the soil before watering instead of relying only on the app. Planta is a great reminder, but every home dries out at a different rate. I usually wait until the top 2–3 inches of soil are dry before watering my Monsteras, then water thoroughly and let the excess drain away. If you start seeing multiple leaves yellowing or the stems getting soft, then I’d start looking at watering habits or the roots. Otherwise, I’d just keep an eye on it and watch what the new growth does. 😊🌿
