Hi everyone! I’ve recently just adopted a cat and I’m having a really hard time keeping him away from my plants. I don’t realize how many of my plant babies were toxic (hence the empty plant hanger lol) so I’ve had to reorganize a lot and luckily now that it’s nice out I could move most to the balcony but for extra security I really wanted to find something to keep him off them any recommendations? I’ve seen sprays and other things but I was hoping for actual verified used stuff that works and doesn’t hurt my plant babies or him.

best advice is to just keep them up high. i’ve also tried covering the base of the soil with tin foil, hard to say if that actually helped or what. i’ve also heard sprinkling cinnamon or peppermint oil can help! my cats were interested in my plants when i first got them, and there were a couple chomps. make sure you know which plants are toxic like make them uncomfy vs. a true emergency (peace lilies are a no!!!) too!

Thank you for the advice yah I looked all of mine up the first day I got him and realized like 80% of them were toxic and how to move them outside or hung them on a shorter planter he couldn’t reach. I tried the tin foil and turns out he likes it he started jumping around on it so can’t use it for the plants but I could a new fun toy for play time😂

my cat is relentless with plants. I’ve had success by putting the plants where I want them and then choosing / buying a sacrificial spider plant. The cat will eat up the spider plant (which is totally safe for them!) (can vomit it up at worst if they eat too much). But, by being distracted by the spider plant, the cat will adjust to the plants new locations and eventually leave them alone most of the time. Cats in general are intrigued by new things, even as minor as moving a plant or furniture to a different spot. Once they adjust to it, they’ll be less interested. Also would reccomend diverting their attention when getting at your plants by playing with them when you notice it

Thanks for the tips I didn’t think about the new things or moving stuff so that’s really good to know! I’ve been trying to stay consistent with telling him no and redirecting when he messes with them and he’s been better like today he didn’t try at all ( I only have 2 inside he can get to now) it’s so random and I’m just worried when I leave him alone he’ll get bored…
