I started with 3 (almost dead) plant rescues on Jan 1. Now I have 27 various health plants. I’m worried about winter. All my plants are indoors, most with grow lights, and we keep a pretty constant temperature year-round. Can I just adjust the length of time with the grow lights as an indication of winter? I leave my grow lights on from sunrise to sundown so maybe where we get less sun in the winter time they’ll know that it’s winter?

You can definitely alter the length of light! I do that with all my plants, just give them 2 hours less (because of my timers presets)

Oh just to add I don’t change my house temps much but I’m sure at night it does get a bit colder

Stupid question-Do you notice a big change in growth rate with less light and does it get much cooler where you are? I have been debating on adjusting their grow light times as well bur it doesn't get "cold" where I live so I'm not sure how that would affect them?

I do notice that growth rate slows down, I change my lights mostly for my holiday cactus so they bloom. It does get pretty cold where I live but most of my plants don’t seem to care too much since the house stays 60-70 degrees at the coolest. The only ones I move are the ones right in a windowsill because our windows leak.

I adjust my grow light timers around the spring and fall equinoxes. 12 hours in spring-summer and 8 or 10 (depending on timer presets) in fall-winter. I also stop fertilizing when I shorten the light time
