My sister bought me a gorgeous rubber plant for Christmas and it looked like it was about to unfurl a new leaf but due to relocation/stress (I assume) it never unfurled. Do I need to removed this growth? Also, at the bottom of the plant it’s sprouting something… any ideas what it’s doing? 🤔

For rubber plants, that little tip is where a new leaf will come from but it has not yet begun to form one, it looks like. Once you get your first leaf, you’ll see what it looks like when one is coming. Right now, it seems it is focused on some other growth project. So don’t be concerned. It looks like it will be just fine when it comes time to putting out its next leaf. Until then, watch, wait, and enjoy. Sisters are the best!

It sure is! I actually only just learned rubber trees grow aerial roots, as it looks like that might be the growth you noticed at the base. You can snip it off it you don’t like it, it won’t hurt the plant. But I’d double check if it needs a repot, in case it was looking for more nutrients because it isn’t getting enough with its soil roots. But otherwise it might just be looking for stability, etc. That’s unknown territory for me though, someone else may know more there. :)

Try putting keiki paste on it. Works every time for me
