I just got a Pink Princess about a month ago. It’s been going down hill since then. It was in coco coir. I had it in a semi bright light and watering it when needed. I changed the soil and checked the roots. Roots are small not as much as I was hoping for the size. Still getting worse. I am thinking it would be best to put it in pon or perlite to help it in a different substrate. There are before and after pics. Any suggestions please? And thank you.

i have mine in my bathroom for the humidity in a mix of perlite, potting soil, and peat moss like a 1:2:1 ratio. bright indirect sunlight is good mines in indirect light. good drainage tho

It’s beautiful hopefully you can bring it back. I wouldn’t keep changing the soil that can cause more stress.

Ok thx. When I did change the soil the roots were a bit small. I was thinking bout changing it to a pon or all perlite to help the roots. What do you think on that?

I would leave it be. It could be stress from repotting.

    What is your watering schedule?

It’s about every 14-ish days. I watered it about 10 days ago and it seems to still be a bit moist. Not wet not dry. I have it about 6 feet from a southwest window. It still seems to be moist and I would think it would be a bit more dry. This is why I and thinking bout changing it to pon or perlite.

My princess are in south facing windows or under grow lights. It may be the lighting. I was thinking too wet because it looks a bit droopy.

Pon would definitely help if its stating wet too long

Another option would be switching to a smaller planter. If the root system is small, put it into a planter that fits the roots. Otherwise the extra soil without the roots, just stays wet. It’s been thru a lot so if you do repot, be extra gentle with the roots and avoid messing with them as best you can. Maybe try adding mycorrhizol inoculant to the roots to give them a boost.

It’s in a 6” pot and I agree. Should be smaller now that you say that. What size? 4”? And what type of mycorrhizol would you recommend? I’ve not used it before and how do I use it?

Choose the pot size based on the size of the root system. For your situation, I would probably have the roots fill the pot. If very wet, leave out of pot for a while. Even an hour may help dry the soil a bit. As for the additive, it needs to be in contact with the root system. I put it in the planter just before adding the plant. It’s available on Amazon and follow the directions. Good luck. And change up the soil to make it less dense. Perlite is cheapest.

Philodendrons are laid back plants. They want to dry out between watering… aroid soil and bright indirect light. If you just messed with its roots or changed its living environment it is likely pouting. Make sure the roots are healthy and if so — the plant should recover. Are there pests???

Thank you so much. There are no pest. When I did take it out of the soil, the roots seem to look good and they felt firm so I knew that was a good sign. But one of the stocks didn’t have a lot of roots on it. And part of me was thinking about taking that and water propagating it or putting it in. To get some more roots before it goes into soil.

I actually have a lot of philodendrons. And I’ve not had any problems with them. But this one just seems to be a little more like a princess. I am going to put it in a smaller pot as someone suggested. I’m not gonna mess with the roots, but I am going to Downsize it. I think the root ball is way too small for that big of a pot. So much suggested it’s not drying out because there’s so much soil and not enough roots. And then I’m afraid of root rot.
