Hi! My dad recently handed down this Dracena that has been in the family for years. It’s leaning and I believe needs to be repotted. Any repotting tips for this? I’m trying to figure out what size and type of pot to rehome it in. Thank you SO much for your help! This was my Grandparents plant, so I want it to thrive. 💚🪴

What makes you think it needs a repot? This picture is backlit so it’s difficult to tell from the picture. In my experience dracena can grow tall but have a smaller root system. Compared to the size of the plant. So I don’t know if the roots have filled that pot. And they don’t mind being a little root bound. I’d check first. You might even need a smaller pot but the root ball will let you know for sure. This plant is very drought tolerant. And your soil look moist and compacted. They prefer underwatering over overwatering

These plants are notorious for not growing straight up indoors, they could be right by a window and STILL lean towards the light 😂. If it was smaller/younger I would have suggested rotating it often to prevent it from leaning as much, but it looks pretty mature now. If it otherwise seems happy I would leave it as it is. Don’t worry about the leaning, maybe just try to rotate it every few months so it grows a bit straighter from now on. Unfortunately the only way to fix the current lean would be to chop it below where it starts to lean, and let the top regrow which I really don’t recommend unless you realllllly know what you’re doing! Good luck with everything!
