To mist or not to mist?? I mean no disrespect of any kind with my question but I am a houseplant novice and have pretty much trusted Planta to get me started as I learn more from experience. I kept the misting notifications on so I missed all of my plants as directed. A few months in, I now have a horrible infestation of fungus gnats. I've done a deep dive into the causes and solutions and so much of what I've read connects misting/wet medium to gnat infestation. I'm working on several remedies including mosquito bits tea and bottom watering but I've also stopped misting completely. I'm open to any advice and thoughts!

I do mist certain plants like my ponytail palm or other tropical plants 2x per week but I use clove water and a fine mist. I don’t overly wet the leaves. I have been this for years and have not had an issue with gnats thankfully. I have brought new plants in the past that had them and used the sticky traps and systemic granules that got rid of them.

The only plants I see benefit from my misting are my Boston Ferns. They seem to love it.
