Hi everyone. I hope you're having a great day! I'm just curious Planta app says to never clean my coffee plant. Is that a thing? Would neem oil harm it? Would love some input, thank you so much.

Hello, is there a reason why you wanna use neem specifically? I personally do "clean” my plants that should not be cleaned. I just rinse the leaves off with water to remove the dust.
3 J'aimeI guess I've gotten into the habit of using neem to lessen the chance of any creepy crawlers on my plants and it makes them shine pretty. 😁 But I still don't understand why it would say to never clean a coffee plant. Just seems weird to me.
0 J'aimeLike I said, just use water for such plant and avoid stagnant water. Neem can clog the leaves, which prevents water evaporating, light absorption and proper gutation. It is actually recommended only at a very low dilution in infrequent applications. The residual effects are negligible and it is effective mainly due to the fact that it results in manual removal of pests.
1 j'aimeAnd I’m only saying since you are following up the recommendation. The instructions in planta is to just use water and a cloth 😊 So the instructions for the coffee plant could be due to the waxy coating, which protects the leaf and could get damaged with the mechanical wiping. That being said, dirty leaves will also cause harm so rinsing them would take care of that!
1 j'aimeThere is sort of a coating on coffee plants. Maybe they are afraid you will destroy that. So if you clean the leaves maybe just dust or use plain water.
