Brown patches everywhere on my Kalanchoe. I noticed the beginnings of it a while ago, but I thought it was a humidity or watering issue. My research tells me it could either be scale or thrips. Can anyone help? Can this problem be treated, or should I toss this plant?

To me, it looks like edema from overwatering. Soil should be bone dry between waterings. Leaves should be a little bendable. Unfortunately the damage is done and not fixable. The plant will be okay if you adjust the watering. An FYI, your plant needs a lot more light.

Thanks. I use a moisture probe so I didn’t think it was being overwatered. Also it’s in south facing window on the windowsill. I suppose if that isn’t enough light I should use a grow light? What’s your advice for this plant on a go forward basis - toss it, chop it down and hope it grows back?

I wouldn’t toss it yet. I would first try propagating from a stem cutting. If unsure about how, google it for exact steps. The bottom portion will then branch out at the cut. The lower leaves will probably eventually fall off and with proper care the new growth will be fine. There are two very similar types of this plant. One gets very red in the sun and the other doesn’t, but it should color up some as you can see with my pic. It’s a very cool looking plant when it gets enough light. Mine is under a strong grow light 16 hours a day and gets some direct morning sun. It’s in the sun right now.

Thanks again. This plant seems to be the other variety, solid green. But yours is definitely a cool looking plant. I will try my best to save mine.

Mine is same as yours. The other variety has a much more pronounced color change. Yours can get the red edges same as mine. It just needs more light.

Golden rule: if it’s still green, there’s still hope! 🌱 Never toss a plant if u still see healthy green growth. I’d let the soil dry out completely b/w waterings & give it more light. The damaged spots won’t go away, but new growth can come in healthy once the conditions improve. 💚
