Does anyone know what type of plant this is? I’m getting two wildly different suggestions from the app. This has been in my office cube for several years and I’m only just noticing that the bottom leaves are all dead. I’ve been looking a different side and basically ignoring it. Looks like I should repot - any advice? It is quite top heavy…

Some type of succulent I would say. The bottom leaves die like that I think. It is elongated cause it wants more sun. But it actually does look healthy to me. So maybe it’s just older. If it is a succulent it likes to be in succulent soil but you should google it cause people say the succulent mix isn’t good and I usually get that and mix it with perlite. But I’m sure there’s better options than that. Also they don’t like to be like with too much soil. So really it may not need to be repottted. Actually your plant looks decent just elongated. But I am by no means an expert lol just trying to help. 🤪🤪😊

Echiveria agavoidies! Hardy succulent that loves full sun and doesn't have much Farina [the white powdery succulent stuff] here's what it looks like grown in full sun

I think it looks like a Hoya. They are not succulents.

definitely a type of echeveria, not sure the specific type though, sorry! but the dead leaves are normal, a lot of succulents' bottom leaves die off as new ones grow in. the reason for it being so tall is because its lacking sunlight, succulents like lots of sun! if you dont like the look of it, you could always try to chop it somewhere on the stem and propagate it! or even take a couple of its healthy leaves, pluck em, and propagate them too so you have more to fill out the space in your pot lol

Thanks for the info! Do you know how to propagate? I’m tempted to chop it in half and try and make two from it, but that also feels dramatic. The bottom part of the bare stem look to have little roots coming out (like fine hairs), so a repot might be necessary regardless

cutting it in half is a valid way to do it! though Im not sure if you would get two from it, I think only the newer half would start to grow roots after *at least* a week or two, but I could be wrong. if you do that, maybe look up some advice if you need to keep it watered or not, Ive never tried it ahaha. Ive only propagated leaves before, you just set them out until they start growing roots, then plant them (preferably in a nursery pot, but not necessary), keep them watered as they need it, and eventually itll sprout! but yeah! never hurts to repot if you think its needed

the leaves (and probably stem) vary in when they grow roots, like 1-4 weeks in my experience! so patience is key lol. and Ive seen so many people say to keep the leaves moist if you prop them, but in my experience, it always makes them rot. so I dont do that anymore and Ive had a lot better luck! just be careful and keep a close eye on whatever youre propping!
