Maybe less watering??? I’m not really sure either tbh. I’ve been experiencing the same problem. But I might have mastered it by letting the dirt dry out more before adding more water.

Get a metal chopstick or skewer. Google to learn about said chopstick/skewer method. Never overwater a plant again.

I stick my finger about an inch into the dirt and only water if it feels completely dry

Also, it helps to make sure your plant is potted into the correctly sized pot! I’ve lost a lot of plants due to the pot being too big for its actual root size. It’s better to be in a too small pot than a too big one

Buy yourself a moisture meter. Water deeply the plants only when the soil is dry

I I used to buy all the super cute decorative pots, but realized I was just overwatering too much. I’ve switched most of my plants into terra-cotta pots and it’s made an enormous difference. For my plants I keep in nursery pots with a cover pot I let dry on a cloth dish mat before retuning to cover pot

Different plants have different watering requirements. Check online for the watering requirements of your individual plants. Cacti and succulents can go a long time, even weeks, between watering. Some alocasias can’t be allowed to completely dry out. Some plants like spider plants, hoyas and arrowheads need the soil to dry out before watering again. I agree with Leafmealone that an over sized pot can cause root rot. Repotting to a pot holding too much soil means the plant can’t use up ALL the water in the soil before the roots rotten. Insufficient light can indirectly cause root rot. The photosynthesis process slows with less lighting. This means the plant uses less water. Continuing to water at the same amount and frequency without verifying the soil needs water leads to root rot. 🪴🍀

Making sure your plants have drainage, and also if you are an overwater-er, terra Cotta will wick away moisture so your plan dries out faster.

Pull back on watering but if you notice the soil is staying soaked after watering then use a chopstick or something to move the soil around to loosen it from the sides of the pot to give it air flow so the soil will go ahead and dry out some. Consider terracotta pots or self watering systems

I use a hydrometer. Even with Planta’s watering schedule it can be a bit aggressive so I double check each plant before I actually give it a drink.

Ensure good drainage, holes in bottom of pot or add rocks. The type of soil is also a factor Ss is watering schedule
