Hi everyone!! I’m a mother of 10 plant children and I am now on my third, yes THIRD, pilea. I love how chinese money plants look but for some reason I cannot for the life of me keep one alive. I just recently got this one about a week and a half ago, watered her 3 or 4 days ago, & she’s in moderate light. I noticed that some of the stems are brown(ing) and was wondering what that indicates? My first pilea was overwatered and dropped leaves at a crazy rate & my second one didn’t indicate any signs of over or under watering but also dropped leaves until it was just a stub. I want one of these guys to work out for me so badly but I desperately need tips!! Please help🙏

I’ve managed to keep mine alive, but barely it seems. Still doesn’t look great so I’m going to be watching these comments too!

I killed my first piles but my second is doing great (ive added a picture) I noticed a few things that made such a big difference because my first one turned light green and all of its bottom leaves turned brown and died off snowing it looks really bad. - First I noticed it does what I described when it doesn’t have enough light. Most sources tell you medium light is fine when it’s really not. I have mine under a grow light on full blast for 12 hours a day. Even a plant close to a window isn’t the best make sure if it’s by a window it’s getting full Sun. - Next try to use a pot with lots of drainage. Pileas love water but get root rot easily so make sure there is room for water to drain from. If you hate the look of nursery pots put the nursery pot into a decorative pot like I did in the photo. - Adding on to the last point use high draining soil. I use a blend of potting soil, perlite, coco choir, charcoal, orchid bark, and pumice. This allows water to drain well and makes sure you don’t overwater. - Lastly this isn’t a care tip but something fun you can do with your pilea. If your plans is loosing leaves like crazy, only has like 3 small light green leaves left try cutting the stem off at and base and putting it in water or leca if you have it. I did this to the 3 best stems of my first plant and all 3 have roots and are growing new leaves. Sorry for all my yapping but I hope this helps! :)

Thank you as well! I’ve kept mine too far from the grow light it seems. I’ll be fixing that :)
