I opened a new bag of potting soil today (specifically moisture control from MiracleGro) and this clump was right at the top. Is this mold?

0 likesFungus, not eggs. It’s found in organic rich potting mix. It’s not harmful to plants. The spores could have come with the soil or entered at the store. It’s common to have cuts or tears in the bags that let in moisture. The fungus needs moisture to grow. You can treat the soil with a fungicide. I have baked out my potting mix in an old pot on the grill to kill off insect eggs and other unsightly items in my stored potting mix. Pro nurseries often bake their potting soil mixes. 🪴🍀
4 likesLooks like some kind of mold to me! I had the moisture control miracle gro soil and had to toss it bc of mold and fungus gnat issues 😭 not uncommon for this product sadly
