Plant friends! A few questions for you! So I just got this app about a few weeks ago and I'm not sure about a few things on it.Maybe someone could help? 1. So I have this brightest sunnies room in the house where I have decided to put most of my plants. Window is facing south.I have a window sill and two shelves on the sides. Now. When measuring light do I point it at the window that is what it asked me to do and have just one site or create the other two sites also for the shelves and do I measure light towards the shelves where the other plants are at not located on the window sill? 2. When asking for size of my plant not the planter do I measure how wide or how tall it is? Thank you everyone! Also when I measure window sometimes it says full sun and sometimes it says part sun part shade....

I have also obsessed with the light measurement but decided to let the plants tell me what is best for them. I put the plants that need full sun by the windowsill and the partial sun around the room. They are doing well! As for the plant size I believe it’s the height but I’m not 100% sure. Your plants are beautiful!!

Thank you so much!!!! 😘 majority of them we just got so they are all doing well so far 🥹I think I will keep them where they are at for now and see how they will do! I am however a little bit concerned cause for most of the Planta is telling me they are places in too far even though it says partial sun is ideal and they are on the shelves

Same for me, but my African milk tree is happy and growing where he is so I just adjusted the window distance in the app until Planta stopped annoying me. 😉

You’re totally fine, the Planta app has a lot of problems lol. It says low light to medium light being pointed directly at a southern facing window with the sun pouring in. I go more off of compass location of windows versus what a light meter tells me. Low light plants like eastern morning sun, high light plants like southern to western windows, bright indirect light, just pull the plants away from the window a few to six feet.

I haven’t used the light meter. As long as the plants look healthy, I wouldn’t worry about it. Plants are adaptable For the plant size, I usually use the height of the plant, not including the pot. So everything above the soil surface.

Last year when I was struggling with some of my plants, the local plant shop owner, who is SO GENEROUS with his knowledge, suggested getting a light meter. He said many hobby plant owners (me) don’t take this important element into consideration. Nor do we truly understand the light needs of plants. House Plant Journal (who he suggested) has several articles and a very helpful document explaining exactly what light needs (foot candle measurements) our plants need. I bought his light meter and have made SIGNIFICANT changes in where my plants are placed relative to windows and my grow lights. I used to think under water/over water was the most important tip I got. Now I understand that light is just as important.
