Calling on ficus elastica/rubber plant owners for this one! Iā€™ve read that the sap can be toxic to those with latex allergies, but I do not have one. However, Iā€™ve also read that it can still be an irritant to some. There was a great sale on two variegated rubber plants at my local shop, but I donā€™t wanna grab them before I confirm if theyā€™re safe. Any answers on if people have to wear gloves when handling this or not would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance! https://links.getplanta.com/a4es

    I have a tineke and even when I notched the stems I didnā€™t have any issues with it on my skin. I do not have a latex allergy but do have eczema and fairly sensitive skin

      Thanks so much for responding! Thatā€™s good to hear! Iā€™m hoping itā€™s safe as long as I donā€™t have the allergy, but I wanted to confirm with those that have one. Do you wear gloves when working with yours?

      I havenā€™t ever worn gloves when messing with it. I think if youā€™re worried you could wear long sleeves and gloves and be pretty safe!

    iā€™ve never had any issues handling mine without gloves. people with latex allergies are EXTREMELY sensitive to lots of things that are only a little bit related to it. if you have a latex allergy i would recommend wearing gloves (although youā€™d probably be fine when watering it), but otherwise i wouldnā€™t worry about it!

      Thanks! Thatā€™s good to know! Guess Iā€™ll have to go back to that store and cross my fingers that theyā€™re still therešŸ¤žthey had a beautiful baby Tineke and Belize. Iā€™ll add photos if I manage to grab them

    Iā€™m back and here she is! Not sure if sheā€™s a ficus elastica ā€œrubyā€ or ā€œbelizeā€, though. My local pet store sells them along with a lot of tropical plants for reptile and amphibian enclosures. She was $7!
