Hey! So, I am wondering if self watering pots are worth it? I have to leave for a week for Christmas and idk if I trust my roommate to water them properly/ when they need to be. Let me know your thoughts, I just don’t know anyone who uses them. Enjoy this photo of my fav orchid <3

Wow stunning 🤩 can’t respond about self watering. I don’t use them myself.

So I do have some self watering pot but I would say not all plants would like them. So plants that don’t like to be water a lot like ZZ, aloe, palms, cactus and succulent are some that I would say won’t do good in one.

Yeah I figured that haha I meant more so if you’d recommend them for those that would do well with them. I’m conflicted cause the whole fun is watering them myself ya know? But I do travel a little bit so I’m wondering if getting them is worth it since they can get a bit pricey.

Victoria, someone gifted me a spider plant in a self watering pot and it’s doing very well several months later. It’s the only plant I have in such a pot but it’s also the one I have to water the least.

I use them for african violets and pilea, but I've never tried them with orchids. In the wild, paphs tend to live in the top leaf litter of rainforests, so they'd be consistently wet; they would be a good candidate to try with self watering (but I'd experiment with one i didn't mind losing or having to rehab, just in case)

So I repotted all of my Easyplant self watering plants. They get too wet too fast and the bottom of the soil stays WET. Maybe there are better brands but mine are doing much better outside of their self watering pot. Maybe try one of those bulbs? Just for while your gone
