I just don't understand - please help. We are in Savannah,Ga. I got my lemon basil on May 1st. She was about 6-8" tall. Planta asks repeatedly to pinch flowers off- from the get-go. I looked up what her 'flowers' were supposed to look like, in case I was missing something, but there are and never have been flowers and Planta doesn't have an option to say no flowers to pinch off (but that's another problem). The only real place I have for her is the patio where she gets part sun-part shade, but a bit heavier on the sun. You can see she is now 18inches tall. My questions: 1. Is she healthy? 2. Am I supposed to see flowers? 3. Why am I not seeing flowers? 4. Is it detrimental to her health if there are no flowers? 5. What am I doing wrong?

i personally have no experience with lemon basil, but after looking it up it sounds like not flowering is totally normal. if you regularly use/prune the leaves, the plant focuses its energy into growing more leaves. additionally, they only bloom when they reach a certain maturity or hit peak summer temps. flowering also can make the taste of the leaves bitter, so most growers don't let it flower. hope this helps!

totally up to you! pruning also helps keep flowers away. look for a node right around the height you want it to be and cut just above it.

Plants like basil usually react well to a hard pruning, don’t be afraid to whack it way back, and cook something tasty!

I think for basil, if you let it flower it will die. So planta is just reminding you to check for flowering and pinch them off if you do.
